Our new special exhibition ‘Townscape’ which has been created in collaboration with the local contemporary artist group, Example, has now opened.
The exhibition is not only a surprise but also an artistic endeavour which centres around the collection held by the museum. Several objects from the museum’s collection have been chosen by the group of artists in order to influence them in the creation of new pieces of art. Some of the objects have been selected for their visual qualities, others, for their interesting or unusual story. Susan Dodds, Sheri Gee, Annie Burrows, Harriet Brigdale, Hannah Buckley, Jackie Watkins, Andy Webb and Renate Wilbraham have superbly reinvented and reinterpreted these objects whether they be a note relating to a pair of socks or a carpet beater! Be prepared to be amazed at the creativity with which the artists have transformed the idea behind these objects into stunning paintings and intricate sculptures. Come and discover for yourself how the vision of an artist can retell the past history of East Grinstead. The exhibition is already proving to be a popular one judging by the number of visitors which have come to the museum today. So, please come and visit us before the 4th of September if you want to spend an interesting afternoon discovering the town history and local art.
A sister exhibition to ours ‘Townscape’ at East Grinstead Library will shortly open showing work by Imberhorne and Sackville schools’ pupils.
