Victorian Christmas Cards

Many of our present day customs at Christmas Time are often credited to Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s Consort.

However, Christmas cards were sent in 1830, before he arrived in this country.

The first Christmas trees to be used in a domestic setting and decorated, were introduced by Queen Caroline the wife of George III.

She, like Albert, was of German descent and brought many customs relating to the Christmas season from that country.
