To commemorate the ending of hostilities in WWI on November 11^th 1918, the Mid Sussex District Council gave East Grinstead Museum a grant to curate a touring exhibition showing the impact the war had on the town and some of the nearby villages.

Each community researched life before, during and after the war. The results were then printed onto three banners for each place. After an initial evening launch in June held on the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, each village has displayed its own banners, locally. On September 18^th all 18 banners will return to the museum to be on public display for the first time, together. They will remain in the museum until November 3^rd, when they will return to their villages in time for Remembrance Sunday.

Please find time to visit the museum while they are still here. Together they evoke a compelling picture of life during this turbulent period of our history and a poignant reminder of the devastation of conflict.
