The little known story of Guinea Pig surgeon Sir Archibald McIndoe’s exploits as a Flying Doctor

The Guinea Pig Club, founded in 1941 by patients of the famed plastic surgeon Sir Archibald McIndoe celebrates it’s 80th anniversary  in 2021.

As part of this, we are hosting a series of events focused on the impact of the club.

This talk is about Sir Archibald McIndoe’s time in Africa, and his work setting up the African Medical and Research Foundation.

AMREF was founded in 1957 by three surgeons to provide vital medical care in Africa. Uniquely, these surgeons, Sir Michael Wood, Sir Archibald McIndoe and Tom Rees used their knowledge of working in Africa to provide medical care.

Notably, today AMREF Health Africa is the leading provider of fixed – wing air ambulance services across the continent.
