Highlights of the History of St Swithun’s Church by Caroline Metcalfe

Caroline Metcalfe will give an illustrated talk on the history of East Grinstead’s Parish Church, beginning with the little that we know of the earliest church building on this site.
She will discuss the oldest monument inside the church, to Dame Katherine Grey (d. 1505), the fall of the church steeple in 1683, and the spectacular fall of the tower in 1785. The Talk will finish with the rebuilding and embellishment of the church in successive centuries.

The talk will take place at East Grinstead Museum.
