The Post Comes to East Grinstead

Our latest special exhibition, “The Post Comes to East Grinstead”, (guest curated by the East Grinstead Stamp and Postcard Club), runs until October 31st 2016.

The display begins with details of the earliest regular postal service in Sussex and features many key events in the postal history of the area including the Wall Hill Mail robbery of 1801 which is illustrated by original documents of the period. In addition to this some of the East Grinstead frankings from 1840 are displayed, together with some of the famous Penny Black stamps.

Try not to miss this fascinating and comprehensive exhibition as it can only run for a few weeks.

From November 1st 2016 the museum will be closed to enable the installation of our new permanent display, “Rebuilding Bodies and Souls”. This exhibition will tell the story of pioneering Second World War surgeon Archibald McIndoe and the Guinea Pig Club. The museum will re-open on Wednesday 30 November.
