Helping the Museum - Volunteering

 

In June 2011 the Museum was a recipient of The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for groups of volunteers who work in their local community for the benefit of others.

This prestigious UK National Honour recognises outstanding voluntary contributions and excellence in volunteering, The Museum  received the Award for “providing a community resource that engages and involves all sections of the community”.

Stewards

This is an exciting opportunity to become involved with the Museum and its visitors. Tasks include welcoming visitors and introducing them to the permanent and temporary exhibitions and research room, selling the merchandise in the Museum's shop and helping visitors with enquires.

Skills/Qualifications required

No particular skills or qualifications are required. This role would suit someone who has an interest in local history and likes meeting new people.


Marketing Officer

This is an opportunity is to help the trustees market the Museum. Tasks will include researching and developing marketing opportunities, devising publicity materials and identifying sponsorship opportunities.

Skills/Qualifications required

Previous marketing or publicity experience is desirable, but not essential. More important is enthusiasm as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to use a computer.


Grants Officer

This is an opportunity to help the trustees raise funds for the Museum by identifying organisations to apply to for grants and assisting with grant applications.

Skills/Qualifications required

Would suit someone who is happy to work on their own, has excellent written skills and is able to use a computer.
