Helping the Museum -

Friends of East Grinstead Museum

Why not join the Friends of the Museum?  For a subscription fee of £10 per year, you will receive three editions of the museum's publication, the Compass which contains articles on topics relating to the museum's collection and the local area.  You will also receive newsletters and invitations to frequent "Friends" events.

The Friends group, founded in 1983, supports the museum by fundraising as well as helping out at the musuem behind the scenes and stewarding.  It has a programme of talks and social events. 

Previous talks have been about the history of the East Grinstead hospitals; an in depth look at Firebacks; the transformation of Brighton as a fishing village to a fashionable seaside resort, plus many more.

There are also regular events such as quizzes, a garden party and the local history fair at the library, plus your chance to help out even further by sparing an hour or two in the annual street collection.

Application forms are available at the museum.  The subscription costs just £10 per year per person, for which you will receive:

  • Members' newsletter
  • 3 editions of the Compass

  • Advanced notice of talks and outings
  • Opportunities to give practical help to the museum
  • Access to 'behind the scenes' information about the museum's collection

Thursday 21 October

Quiz Night at Moat Road Church Hall.

Teams of 6, £8 per person includes ploughman's supper and a drink.

Tuesday 7 December

Music for McIndoe at CJ's Wine Bar

£15 to include a meal and live music.


Speaker Nights

Speaker nights are held in the Main Hall as East Court and start ar 8.00pm. Free to members of the Friends, there is a charge of £2.50 to non-members.
